i had no way to get info off laptop other than to email them. this IOGEAR cardbus totally saved me in a pinch. my usb ports fried on my laptop. this saved me and i am able to get info off laptop to an external harddrive. and it was cheap
This works fine on a Mac Powerbook G4. If you plug in a device that draws a lot of power, it will lock up your machine and you will have to reboot. The hitch is that you need the extra power supply if you are using a device that is supplied a large amount of power from the USB port. For example, a USB disk drive, such as a GO drive, needs the external power supply. The power supply is OADB-0705-261G. You can ask IOGear about this.
Be sure you have reflected significantly before purchasing this product. For anything else, you MUST have the power adapter (which does not come with the cardbus). The only things that I can use it for are my flash disks. And it speeds up the data transfer. Even with the power adapter, this bus would not support a printer. Otherwise, it works fine.
Great product. hard drive. The quality is superb, and, I believe people only complain that it doesn't work because the device can only provide so much phantom power to your peripherals. However, it does function with devices requiring less power, like a wireless keyboard/mouse combination or an externally powered ext. Both work flawlessly. It does protrude a bit, but that's pretty expected.
Some of the comments have information that is not accurate, stated as if it applies to all machines with Intel chipsets.I'm running Win'XP w/SP3. IBM ThinkPad T40 with an Intel 82801 chipset. The IOGEAR installed fine and is working with a Seagate 500GB USB2 drive, with absolutely no issues.Hope that helps others considering this device.
